Majoring In Anthropology
The Department of Anthropology offers a B.A. in Anthropology. Not all Anthropology majors come to William & Mary intending to major in anthropology. Many are converted when they take an elective course that awakens their interest in the field. Some students may take a course to fulfill a COLL requirement and decide to become a major. Whatever your path, welcome. We have some ideas of how you can get started.
Anthropology majors enjoy a lot of freedom in choosing the courses that make up their degree. There are three specific required courses that will give you an overview of the conceptual underpinnings of our discipline. You will choose the remaining courses to either focus your major on a specific aspect of anthropology, or to build a broad foundation. You will work with your major advisor to come up with a plan that meets your goals and interests.
