Why W&M
William & Mary has been one of my top colleges since I first visited it years ago. Despite the pandemic regulations and bad weather, I had an immediate liking for the campus. The size and location were ideal for me, being only a few hours from home but far enough to get out of the Shenandoah Valley. Having grown up in the backwoods of Augusta County, the acres of woods and abundant wildlife surrounding campus made me feel at home. The students I met were kind and welcoming, and they all seemed to be enjoying their experience. Later on, as I began applying to colleges, I knew that William & Mary was one of my best options.
I chose William & Mary mainly for its academic reputation and engaged community. I wanted to attend a school that would offer excellence in both STEM and the humanities; William & Mary was one of the few colleges that could do both, not to mention its plethora of clubs. Unlike most competitive schools, the community appeared supportive and collaborative. I knew that I would be academically challenged but also encouraged by my peers and instructors. Upon meeting other scholars at finalist weekend, I decided to attend William & Mary with or without the scholarship; if the other students were anything like the people I met, William & Mary was the place for me. When Dr. Cristol called to offer the scholarship, I accepted immediately. I am beyond thankful to be a part of this community and will strive to bring joy and encouragement here for the next four years.
