Values in Action Award
Objective
To recognize staff and faculty whose exceptional service exemplifies William & Mary's stated values: Belonging, Curiosity, Excellence, Flourishing, Integrity, Respect and Service
The Award
In November 2019, W&M affirmed its first-ever statement of values. These values are both reflective of and aspirational for the W&M community.
Amid pandemic, many individuals have far exceeded the usual duties of their job in order to support the university and its people during crisis. In recognition of these extraordinary efforts, two generous donors who wish to remain anonymous established the Values in Action Award.
The Values in Action Award honors William & Mary staff and faculty whose efforts exemplify W&M's values. The award is accompanied by a $2,500 cash prize for each recipient.
Timeline for Distribution
At least one Values in Action awards will be given each semester to faculty and staff through Fall 2023, reflecting an ongoing annual commitment by the donors.
The President presented the inaugural four Values in Action awards in Spring 2021. Student organizations were added in the fall of 2021, when the President presented two individual faculty and staff members and five student organizations with Values in Action awards.
Eligibility and Nomination
All non-student employees of W&M or contractors providing auxiliary services to the university are eligible for nomination.
An individual may submit one nomination. Individuals may nominate someone else, or they may self-nominate.
Nominations will be submitted using the online submission form.
Nominees will be evaluated based on their leadership of an initiative that exemplifies W&M's values. Nominators should submit a completed nomination form and no more than two letters of support (at 250 words or fewer each). Letters may be written by students, faculty or staff, and should speak to the initiative(s) the employee led and its reflection of W&M's values.
In the Fall of 2023, William & Mary will recognize the exceptional work of faculty and staff with another Values in Action award.
