French & Francophone Studies at William & Mary

Gain the language skills and cultural understanding necessary to navigate the French-speaking world. Francophone culture is rich, varied and spans the globe from France to the Indian Ocean, Africa, Vietnam, the Caribbean and North America. Studying French fosters analytical and critical thinking, excellence in research and communication and an ability to engage other cultures in their own language while being considerate of their points of view. These are abilities in high demand in every profession. Many students combine French & Francophone studies with a second major such as international relations, global studies, government, economics, history or a business degree. The interdisciplinary nature of our courses attracts students from every department on campus, STEM included.
