Event Recycling Kit
Putting on an event, and want to incorporate recycling? William and Mary offers a free event recycling kit, courtesy of the Committee on Sustainability and the student Green Fee.
A Kit Includes:
- All of the materials needed to effectively execute an event recycling program.
- Up to ten portable recycling and garbage containers designed specifically for events.
- The containers are lightweight and easy to use.
- The recycling and garbage containers are uniform in design, but color-coded to make waste disposal easy and convenient for attendees. Tip: by placing the containers side-by-side throughout an event, you can create an easy to identify waste disposal station and encourage attendees to make environmentally responsible decisions.
All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to reserve the free containers for upcoming events. Depending on the size of the event, you can reserve all of the containers or just a few. No matter the size, events generate a significant amount of waste and the recycling kit will help to minimize the environmental footprint.
What can be recycled: Empty aluminum cans, glass, empty #1 and #2 plastic bottles, mixed paper, and cardboard.
Requesting the kit is easy!
The kit must be requested in advance via the link below in order to be reserved. The kit can be checked out for up to three days from the SWEM library circulation desk with a valid William and Mary ID. Users are responsible for picking-up and returning all of the materials. As available, an easy-to-maneuver hand cart makes moving the containers to the event a breeze. It is important to note that all pieces of the kit should be returned to the circulation desk in clean and working condition. Should the kit not be properly returned, the user’s department or organization will be responsible for the cleaning or replacement of materials. Additionally, users will be responsible for disposing of the recycling after the event in convenient, predetermined dumpsters.
To help the College track the kit’s progress, each user will be required to estimate the amount of recycling collected in cubic yards. This information must be provided to the SWEM circulation staff when the kit is returned.
Request the free recycling kit for your next event and help make William and Mary are more sustainable campus!
