Monty Mason graduated from William & Mary in 1989 with a government major and a history minor. He coordinates community affairs and extends partnerships between the university and public/private partners. Monty draws on his previous experience as the chair of the Williamsburg Economic Development Authority to look for unique opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to establish mutually beneficial external relationships.
Monty enjoyed 10+ year careers with LandAmerica Financial Group, Visa, Inc, and most recently in the Virginia General Assembly. He represented the Williamsburg region in the 93rd district in the House of Delegates from 2014-2016 and then the Virginia Peninsula in the Virginia State Senate from 2016-2023. He was active in the areas of mental health, child welfare, foster care, and the environment serving on the Behavioral Health Commission, the executive committee of the Child Services Act, and the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission.
He serves on the board of the Sorensen Institute of Political Leadership, the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce, and the advisory board of the Virginia Living Museum and Literacy for Life. Monty’s wife Pamela has been at William & Mary since 2004, and they have two daughters in high school, Taylor Anne and Hawley.
