About Data Science

The field of Data Science is focused on the creation and application of statistical and artificial intelligence techniques to interpret, visualize, and derive actionable insights from large amounts of data. Students in our programs can expect to learn through application in a wide range of fields, with multiple track options available, including specializations in Artificial Intelligence and applications-based tracks well suited to pairing in double majors.
  • Data Science is the study and application of methods that extract knowledge from frequently large, diverse sets of data. Data can come from anywhere: newspaper articles, satellite images, or genomes for example.
  • The Data Science Program offers a B.S. in Data Science. You can pursue a major or a minor in Data Science. While it’s great of you have past programming experience, you do not need such an experience to enter these Data Science programs. You will get the necessary knowledge though courses, and you will learn to work in research labs aligned with the program.
  • With Data Science training, you will be more competitive for many exciting jobs - from music and linguistics, to government and biology.
  • If you are a graduate student you can pursue a Ph.D. degree in Applied Science that focuses on Data Science. As a graduate student you may be eligible to pursue Graduate Teaching or Graduate Research Assistantships. Upon graduation you can pursue additional careers to the ones identified above, including careers in academia, cutting edge research, or technology innovation.
