Professor Mead received her BFA from Philadelphia College of Art and her MFA from Southern Methodist University.
She has been a visiting artist and artist in residence at numerous distinguished institutions including The Slade School of Fine Art, University College, London, England (2001, 2002, 2003, 2013) and Youkobo Art Space, Tokyo, Japan (2002-03). As a recipient of the Japan/US NEA Creative Artist Fellowship (2002-03), Mead spent six months living and working in Japan. She has been awarded many work-stay residencies including Nes Artist Residency Skagaströnd, Iceland (2009), Jentel Artist Residency, Banner, Wyoming (2005), and the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, France (2015, 2018).
In spring of 2020 Mead will have a solo exhibition titled “Fictional reality: the photograph and its object” at the Rawls Museum Arts in Courtland, Virginia.
