Tack Faculty Lecture Series established at William & Mary
A generous commitment by Martha and Carl Tack has established the Tack Faculty Lecture Series at William & Mary. The commitment creates an endowment for the series and speakers, who are William & Mary faculty members and will receive stipends for their presentations.
“This lecture series celebrates William & Mary’s intellectual life and showcases our outstanding faculty,” said Provost Michael R. Halleran. “Martha and Carl’s wonderful generosity provides an award for the faculty who share their fascinating work with the community as a part of the series.”
Through the Tack Lecture Series, a William & Mary professor will address the community on a topic of general interest at least once a semester. The series launched last April with a presentation from biology professor John Swaddle. John Morreall, chair and professor of religious studies, gave a talk on Oct. 2. The series will continue in spring 2013, with a presentation from Chuck Bailey, chair and professor of geology. All lectures are free and open to the public.
“William & Mary’s faculty members are doing exceptional work,” said Martha Tack. “Carl and I are pleased to be able to help provide a venue for speaking on their areas of specialization in front of a much broader audience.”
Both Class of 1978 alumni of William & Mary, Martha, a trustee of The College of William & Mary Foundation, and Carl, a businessman and an instructor at the London Business School, live in Williamsburg.
