Cole to be inducted into Virginia Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame

Steve Cole, William & Mary Associate Athletics Director of Internal Operations, will be one of four people inducted into the Virginia Athletic Trainers Association (VATA) Hall of Fame January 15 at the Hilton Hotel Short Pump in Richmond.

Cole, who spent 25 years as the College’s Director of Sports Medicine prior to moving into his current position in 2008, has been an active member of VATA for more than two decades.  He is a past president, and had an active hand in leading the state’s athletics trainers under the oversight of Virginia’s Board of Medicine.

In 2006, the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) recognized Cole as the College/University National Athletic Trainer of the Year. In 1997, Cole received his 25-year membership pin from NATA. He also was recognized for his service to the profession, receiving the Athletic Trainer Service Award, which at the time made him one of only three recipients from the Mid-Atlantic Region.

A campus icon, Cole was honored by the College for his many years of service to William & Mary with the recognition as an honorary alumnus in 2000.

Saturday’s ceremony will be held in conjunction with VATA’s Annual Symposium.  This year’s class of four will be inducted during a luncheon starting at 12:30 p.m.
